Brick By Brick

This stool was inspired by Louis Kahn, with brick, wood, and geometric shapes such as circles. His use of solid, natural materials guided my choice of materials and design language.

The brutalist character of brick and wood remains visible; the unfinished and imperfect aspect was reinforced rather than concealed. The stacking of bricks gives the stool solidity and an architectural look.

The wooden half-moon pieces connect the seat to the brick base and create cohesion between the materials. This creates a balance between rough and refined, heavy and light, construction and detail.
